A shoe is an item of footwear evolved at first to protect the human foot and later additionally, as an item of decoration in itself. The foot contains more bones than any other single part of the body, and has evolved over hundreds of thousands of years in relation to vastly varied terrain and climatic conditions. Together with the proprioceptive system, it is what makes balance and ambulation possible.
The design of shoes has varied enormously through time, and from culture to culture, with appearance originally being tied to function. Additionally fashion has often dictated whether shoes have, for example, very high heels or no heels at all. Contemporary footwear varies in style, complexity and cost, from the most basic sandal, via high fashion shoes for women sometimes costing thousands of dollars a pair, to complex boots specially designed for mountaineering or skiing. Shoes have traditionally been made from leather, wood or canvas, but are increasingly made from rubber, plastics, and other petrochemical-derived materials
Shoe size taxonomy across the world does not follow the same language. While some countries measure shoe sizes in inches others measure them in millimetres. According to Extraordinary Origins of Everyday Things, the first standardization of shoe sizes happened in 1305 by the order of King of Britain Edward I.
Though a lot of shoe size conversion tables are available over the internet, it is better to check a conversion table from any of the top shoe manufacture’s website. The shoe size numbers differs immensely from country to country. A Chinese shoe size of size 7 maybe equal to a size 4 in US. UK, US, Europe Japan - all have their own standards of shoe sizes.
If the company allows it in their buying procedure then you can measure your foot in millimetres, centimetres or inches and put up the figures there. This will allow the seller to understand your foot dimensions and decide the right kind of shoe size for you. Shoe size numbers also vary between genders and for children. Also high heels for women need to be chosen quite carefully.
In case you got a shoe of wrong size, do not hesitate to return it back to the seller and ask for a right size. Do not compromise with your shoe size ever because a wrong size of shoes can lead to pain in the feet. Also your feet changes size over lifetime, hence do not assume your shoe sizes to stay the same as it was last time.
